Through presentations and hands-on paint-making, this workshop introduces participants to bird species found on farms and the role invasive plant management plays in supporting their conservation.
Using Asian invasive plants such as Toringo crabapple and Multiflora rose — collected at Hawthorne Valley Farm with guidance from professionals — participants will explore the plants’ names, cultural significance, and traditional uses in Japan while also learning about their impact on local ecosystems.
The workshop includes a hands-on session where participants create paint from invasive plant species, encouraging a more thoughtful and creative relationship with these otherwise harmful plants.
Participants will leave with a bottle of handmade plant paint and a list of affordable, recycled-material tools and resources to continue paint-making on their own.
