This special edition, now published by the Thomas Cole National Historic Site, brings to life the pivotal moment in 1825 when Thomas Cole first visited Catskill, NY—an event that sparked the Hudson River School and transformed American art. Talbott’s engaging storytelling captures Cole’s legacy as both a pioneering painter and a passionate advocate for the American landscape.

The Thomas Cole National Historic Site is the former home of Hudson River School of Art founder, Thomas Cole. Located in the village of Catskill, the house, called Cedar Grove, and Cole's studio are open for tours, events, and workshops throughout the year.
