From the acclaimed playwright behind Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes and East of Berlin comes the U.S. premiere of Hannah Moscovitch’s latest work—a searing, deeply introspective drama that delves into trauma, memory, and the quiet, insidious ways women navigate violence in their lives. Hailed as “the dark angel of Canadian theatre,” Moscovitch is known for her uncompromising explorations of trauma, identity, and memory. Her works have won the Governor General’s Award and the prestigious Windham-Campbell Prize, and her plays have been produced across Canada, the U.S., and internationally.

Lauren, a journalist in her early 40s, begins investigating a high-profile domestic violence case. As she interviews witnesses and survivors, long-buried moments from her own past resurface—memories she once rationalized, dismissed, or simply accepted as “just part of growing up.” Told through an innovative theatrical device in which Lauren’s voice is embodied by another actor, Red Like Fruit is both an unflinching exploration of whose voices we trust to tell our stories and a powerful testament to the courage of speaking the unspeakable. As emotionally gripping as it is intellectually provocative, this haunting and unforgettable theatrical event challenges audiences to reconsider the narratives we accept—and the ones we choose to ignore.

Directed by Margo Whitcomb, who previously helmed BST’s critically lauded U.S. premiere of Moscovitch’s East of Berlin, this haunting and award-winning work arrives fresh from its world premiere in Halifax and an acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
