Mushroom Cultivation Workshop

    • Sun, 09/28/2025
  • 408 Lake Mills Road, Cairo, NY 12431

Join us on Sunday, September 28th 10 am - 12: 30 pm for a hands-on workshop on growing edible mushrooms on logs! Mushroom logs, or “bolts,” are a fantastic way to turn wood from your property into healthy, nutritious food. In this outdoor session, participants will learn each step of inoculating mushroom bolts for outdoor cultivation. We’ll observe shiitake mushrooms growing on bolts and cover the best types of wood for different mushroom species, where to source spawn, and how to care for your bolts for consistent harvests. You’ll also gain a basic understanding of mushroom anatomy, life cycle, and identification. At the end of the workshop, each participant will take home an inoculated shiitake log that can produce mushrooms multiple times a year for years to come. No prior experience is needed—this beginner-friendly course provides all materials.
