Friday, June 20th, 4-6 pm

Join us for a preview of ON TREES: Georgia O’Keeffe and Thomas Cole. The Exhibition explores how each artist portrayed trees during pivotal first visits to landscapes that shaped their careers—Cole to Catskill, NY in 1825, and O’Keeffe to New Mexico in 1929. The exhibition highlights two landmark paintings shown together for the first time: Hunters in a Landscape by Thomas Cole and Dead Tree Bear Lake Taos by Georgia O’Keeffe. These works reveal how trees, with their human-like presence, inspired both artists at key turning points in their lives. Additional Cole works complement the exhibition.

Presented as part of COLE 200, the bicentennial of Cole’s transformative Catskill visit, which launched the Hudson River School and reshaped American landscape painting.

“The pairing of two important paintings…These respective sojourns mark a turning point for Cole and O’Keeffe alike.”—Chronogram
