Catskill Color Workshop

    • Sun, 09/21/2025
  • 107 Water Street, Catskill, NY 12414

Join local artist Lou Thorne for a hands-on, all-ages workshop exploring the natural and urban colors of Catskill. Begin the day foraging in the village for pigments—plants, brick fragments, rust, and more—then learn to transform these materials into inks and paints. Experiment with your new colors and create art alongside other participants. Additional homemade pigments and inks will also be available to explore.

Schedule (join for the full day or part of it):

  • 10am–12pm: Foraging—search for wild pigment sources around Catskill.

  • 12pm–1pm: Lunch break

  • 1pm–3pm: Processing & Painting—turn found materials into inks and paints and create your artwork.

Registration:
The workshop is free, but registration on Eventbrite is required to receive the door code for Square One Painting and Drawing School.

About the Project:
This workshop is part of the Catskill Abundance Palette Project, in which Lou transforms Catskill’s abundant materials—such as invasive plants, industrial remnants, and excess waste—into a unique palette of inks and paints. Participants will have the chance to explore and paint with these colors during the workshop.
