Winter Hiking and Photography Experience

Venture onto the ice and snow-covered trails of the Great Northern Catskills with Upstate Hiking! Your licensed guide also serves as your personal photographer, allowing you to set your phone aside and completely immerse in the experience.

With routes ranging from beginner-friendly to advanced, there's something for every winter adventurer. We'll make use of snowshoes, microspikes and/or crampons to explore the mountain landscapes and experience the wonder and beauty of winter hiking in the Catskills. Winter half day hikes are typically 3-4 hours and cover 2-4 miles of our favorite trails in the area, depending on the group's level of experience and trail conditions.

Unless otherwise discussed, we'll meet at 9am on the morning of our adventure at a convenient rendezvous point before proceeding to the trailhead. There we'll begin with a quick introduction and gear check before taking to the trails, stopping to learn about different rock and ice formations, as well as the history of the area. Throughout the trip, we’ll be getting tons of candid and action shots, as well as some epic posed shots at some of our favorite views in the Catskills.

Note that all technical gear for winter hiking (e.g. snowshoes, crampons, microspikes) will be provided as needed. With a maximum group size of 6 and an average of 3-4 per trip, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to work with you individually on your skills and techniques if needed.
