Winter Guided Walk with Wild Hudson Valley

    • Sun, 12/07/2025
  • 4 Maude Adams Road, Tannersville, NY 12485

Centuries ago, Lunaapee communities followed the seasons to the places where the land offered its greatest abundance—spending spring along Hudson River tributaries for spawning fish, summer in floodplain villages near maize fields, autumn gathering nuts and hunting game, and winter in the forests for bear hunts and storytelling.

Join ethnoecologist Justin Wexler of Wild Hudson Valley on Sunday, December 7th 1-2:30 pm for a seasonal walk exploring this deep connection between people and place. Along the way, learn about local flora and fauna, their uses in native culture, and the ecosystems they support, all illuminated through Hudson Valley native languages and folklore.

A lifelong Hudson Valley resident, Justin has spent more than two decades studying Algonquian languages, history, and folklore. With a background in history, anthropology, and environmental policy, he is devoted to sharing the stories of the region’s original inhabitants and their enduring relationship with the natural world.
