Join us for a 2.5 miles hike exploring the histories of the STONY CLOVE & CATSKILL MOUNTAIN, OTIS ELEVATING, and CATSKILL & TANNERSVILLE railroads of the 19th and early 20th centuries. These long-gone railroads once carried thousands of travelers to the Mountain Top’s famed resorts, including the Catskill Mountain House and Hotel Kaaterskill. This guided hike begins at South Lake in North-South Lake Campground and follows historic rail routes, including the Otis Elevating RR and the Catskill & Tannersville RR, with stops at former station sites and a small rail yard where artifacts remain.
Hike leader Paul LaPierre, Vice-President of the Empire State Railway Museum, is a lifelong railroad enthusiast and member of the Mountain Top Historical Society.
Meet in the parking lot at south end of South Lake.
