Mike Tyson Hosts Tribute to Legendary Trainer Cus D’Amato in Catskill
This weekend, Catskill welcomes back boxing legend Mike Tyson for a heartfelt “Celebration of Cus” honoring his late mentor Cus D’Amato, forty years after his passing. The event takes place Saturday, November 1, with a free public ceremony from 3–5 p.m. on Catskill Main Street, featuring guest speakers, tributes, and live entertainment.
Before becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history, Tyson trained under D’Amato at the historic Cus D’Amato KO Boxing Gym in Catskill—a place that transformed his life and career. The tribute will bring together former fighters, authors, and close friends of D’Amato, including Mickey Ward, Mark Kriegel, and Bobby Stewart, with a special presentation from Sticker Mule CEO Anthony Constantino.
Main Street will be closed from Cook Street to Thompson Street during the event, with vendors and local entertainment creating a lively atmosphere in celebration of Catskill’s lasting connection to boxing history. Tyson’s return marks a full-circle moment—honoring the coach who not only built champions but also changed lives in this quiet Hudson Valley town.
