Joan Shelley is a songwriter and vocalist whose music is influenced by traditional artists from her home state of Kentucky, as well as from Ireland, Scotland, and England. Yet, she defies the label of "folksinger." Her artistic sensibility is more in tune with storytellers like Roger Miller, Dolly Parton, or Tom T. Hall—who once summed up his approach in a song titled “I Witness Life.” Her latest release, the five-track Mood Ring EP, has earned acclaim from The New York Times, MOJO, and Pitchfork.
