  • 1 Main St., Catskill, NY 12414

The commemorative ceremony takes place on Saturday, May 16th at 10:00 AM at the Historic Catskill Point Warehouse.

The Greene County Veterans Service Agency is proud to announce that the 2026 Greene County Memorial Veteran Award will be presented to Sgt. Boyd F. Allen, a veteran of the United States Army.

Born on January 25, 1914, in Tannersville, New York, Boyd F. Allen was a lifelong resident of the community, remaining there until his passing on January 6, 2013, just shy of his 99th birthday.

Mr. Allen enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 8, 1943, serving with the 23rd Armored Engineers Battalion, 3rd Armored Division during World War II. During his service, Sgt. Allen participated in the Battle of the Bulge, where he carried out the dangerous duties of clearing land mines and supporting frontline mobility and defensive operations under active combat conditions during one of the war’s most critical campaigns.

For his bravery and service, Sgt. Allen was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and two Purple Hearts for wounds sustained in combat.

Following his military service, Mr. Allen remained deeply committed to his community. He served as Mayor of Tannersville, operated a surveying company throughout Greene County, and later held the role of Greene County Superintendent of Highways for sixteen years during a significant period of infrastructure expansion. Throughout his career, he mentored and supported many young men as they began their own professional paths.

This is a public event and all are invited to attend. If you would like to make a presentation during the event, please RSVP to the Greene County Veterans Service Agency at (518) 943-3703.
