BAD MOVES
With their third LP, Wearing Out the Refrain, Washington, D.C.’s Bad Moves push beyond their signature blend of bright guitar-pop and biting lyrics to explore repetition as both a musical tool and emotional weapon. They question the catharsis of collective singing, revealing how communal harmony can fray into tension and division—where a shared refrain becomes a cycle of frustration echoed back and forth.
THEO GRIZOL (OF NANA GRIZOL)
Hailing from Athens, Georgia, indie pop band Nana Grizol blends the laid-back charm of slacker rock with the vibrant, off-kilter psychedelia of the Elephant 6 collective, all shaped by the singular voice of songwriter Theo Hilton. Infused with a queer perspective, Hilton’s deeply personal songs explore life in the American South with a mix of playfulness, introspection, joy, and protest—brought to life by a dynamic, horn-filled ensemble that adds richness and emotional depth.
