Nestled among the region’s highest peaks, it's home to some of the top attractions in the Great Northern Catskills.
Hunter is Greene County’s true mountain town. Nestled among the region’s highest peaks, it is also home to some of the top attractions in the Great Northern Catskills. Within the Town of Hunter you will find two villages – Hunter and Tannersville. Since the area was first settled in the early 1800’s, tourism has been the lifeblood of the community. Whereas the rocky, mountainous terrain made large farming difficult, the stunning scenery attracted artists, poets, writers, and wealthy travelers who wished to escape city life and draw inspiration from nature.
Today, tourists continue to flock to Hunter by the thousands to enjoy the wild places of the Catskill Park and visit Hunter Mountain Resort, one of New York State’s premier skiing destinations. A family-friendly resort, Hunter Mountain also boasts a scenic sky ride and New York Zip Line Adventure Tours, the longest, fastest, and highest zipline canopy tour in North America, and the second-largest zipline in the world! Hunter also hosts some of the Great Northern Catskills’ most popular annual events, including Hunter Mountain Oktoberfest, Trail Blazer Music Festival (formally Taste of Country Music Festival), and TAP NY.
