Join Kevin Avery for an engaging discussion on Thomas Doughty’s 1822 painting Approaching Storm (Land Storm).

Kevin Avery is a senior research scholar at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he served as assistant and associate curator in the American Wing from 1988 to 2008. He holds a B.A. in art history from Fordham University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Dr. Avery has organized exhibitions including Hudson River School Visions: The Landscapes of Sanford R. Gifford, Treasures from Olana: Landscapes by Frederic Edwin Church, and in 2017, Sanford R. Gifford in the Catskills at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. From 1983 to 2016, he taught nineteenth-century American art as an adjunct at Hunter College, CUNY.

Thomas Cole National Historic Site

The Thomas Cole National Historic Site is the former home of Hudson River School of Art founder, Thomas Cole. Located in the village of Catskill, the house, called Cedar Grove, and Cole's studio are open for tours, events, and workshops throughout the year.
