On The Table is CREATE's annual summer benefit, celebrating the creativity and artistic spirit of our community.

The event features a unique exhibition of artist-designed place settings for the “Imagined Table,” along with the Napkin Sketch collection—small, affordable artworks created by artists from near and far.

Guests can enjoy a viewing party and silent auction in a welcoming, art-filled atmosphere that brings together creativity, community, and support for the arts.

Second Saturday Workshop: Summer Plant Dyes with Museum Educators

Saturday, August 8, 11am-2pm Create natural dyes from seasonal flowers and plants using 19th-century-inspired techniques with the Thomas Cole Site’s education staff. Participants will dye fabric with black walnuts and dyer’s coreopsis and are welcome to bring a white cotton or natural-fiber item to add to the dye bath. While the dyes simmer, enjoy a tour of the historic artist’s studio and Main House, plus a refreshing beverage. Museum admission and access to special exhibitions are included.

Set inside a Texas prison, the play follows a historian’s interview with a former federal prison administrator awaiting sentencing for his role in a devastating tragedy. Tense and thought-provoking, Building the Wall examines power, responsibility, and the fragility of democratic institutions, challenging audiences to consider how fear shapes policy and how ordinary people become complicit in extraordinary events.

Northern Spy Reading Series: Paul Yoon

August 12: Paul Yoon in conversation with Danniel Schoonebeek, celebrating the release of his new novel, Etna. Paul Yoon is the author of five works of fiction, including Snow Hunters, winner of the Young Lions Fiction Award, The Mountain, an NPR Best Book of the Year, and The Hive and the Honey, winner of The Story Prize. A Guggenheim Fellow and recipient of an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, his stories have appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper’s, and The Best American Short Stories. He lives in the Hudson Valley, and his new novel, Etna, is forthcoming from Scribner in August. Danniel Schoonebeek is the author of American Barricade and Trébuchet, a National Poetry Series selection. A co-founder of Bushel Collective and former editor of the PEN Poetry Series, his work has appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, and Tin House. All readings start at 6:30pm.
