Sunday Salon Lecture: “Nature, Music, Joy, and Loss: Thomas Cole’s ‘The Pic-Nic Party’ as Elegy” with Terry Carbone, Ph.D.

Join art historian Terry Carbone, Ph.D., for a Sunday Salon exploring Thomas Cole’s The Pic-Nic Party and the artist’s relationship with music and the outdoors. Discover the connections between Cole’s art, life, and love of music, including his original guitar, now on view in Thomas Cole: An American Visionary in the new Richard Sharp Gallery.

Terry Carbone is an American art historian and curator with more than 40 years of experience. She served as Program Director for American Art at the Henry Luce Foundation and previously spent 30 years as a curator at the Brooklyn Museum. She is an award-winning author and recipient of the Smithsonian’s Lawrence A. Fleischman Award for Scholarly Excellence in American Art.

The Salon takes place 2-3:30pm. Admission includes access to the 1839 Storehouse for the Sunday Salon, and general admission to the historic buildings and special exhibitions, open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
