Northern Spy Reading Series: Ryan Chapman

September 23: Ryan Chapman, author of The Audacity and Riots I have Known.

Ryan Chapman is a Sri Lankan-American writer from Minneapolis who lives in Kingston, New York. His second novel, The Audacity (2024), was longlisted for the Joyce Carol Oates Prize and praised by Vanity Fair, The Washington Post, and Literary Hub. His debut, Riots I Have Known (2019), was longlisted for The Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize and named a best book of the year by Electric Literature and The Marshall Project. His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Guardian, The New York Times, and other publications. He teaches at Vassar College and the Sewanee School of Letters and is a contributing editor at BOMB.
