How to Take a Leek: A Ramp & Foraging Workshop

    • Sat, 05/09/2026
  • 408 Lake Mills Road, Cairo, NY 12431

May 09, 2026, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Join us for our fifth annual ramp foraging workshop focused on the wild leek (Allium tricoccum). Learn about its lifecycle, sustainable harvesting, planting, and other edible and medicinal plants that grow in early spring forests. Participants will plant ramp bulbs and enjoy ramp-based snacks at the end.

Registration includes the option to add 20 ramp bulb transplants (a $35 value) to start your own patch at home. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a trowel if you have one, as the workshop takes place entirely in the woods with no bathroom facilities. Scheduled for the end of ramp season, the timing allows participants to see ramps in the wild while receiving high-quality dormant bulbs for transplanting.

This workshop is part of Foraged New York, a regional foraged food festival running May 4–10, 2026, featuring events and wild food experiences across the region.
