Piano Performance Museum at the Doctorow Center for the Arts

Now on display:  The Diane Estrin Miniature Piano Museum.  A unusual collection of miniature pianos that mimic our larger collection of instrumental pianos. The Piano Performance Museum is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 3pm by appointment only.

A destination unlike any other in the United States, the Catskill Mountain Foundation’s Piano Performance Museum offers a unique glimpse into the development of pianos in Europe and America over the past four centuries.

The Steven E. Greenstein collection includes early and modern keyboard instruments including European historic pianos, as well as American pianos built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The collection shows the development of the instrument from the small piano forte, built for use in private homes and salons, to the modern piano, built for large concert halls. The collection also includes tuning tools and repair kits, some 200 years old, leather-wrapped with a place for each tool; tuning forks, hammers—everything that would allow a technician to bring a piano back to maximum performance standards.

Group Tours are available by appointment throughout the year, on weekdays and weekends, with docents or with professional concert artists providing mini-concerts on the historic instruments. Tours can be tailored to your interests. Call 518-263-2036 for more information.

Join The Lisette Project for a powerful musical exploration of revolutionaries in Haiti, France, and the United States who stood at the edges of freedom’s promise. Through chamber music, anthem parodies, vaudeville tunes, and sacred music, the program creates a sonic landscape of the Revolutionary Atlantic while exploring the evolving boundaries of freedom envisioned by the Declaration of Independence. Founded in 2021 by artistic director Jean Bernard Cerin, The Lisette Project is a performance and research collective that explores the history of Haitian classical music and its connections to broader global currents. Starting at 4pm

Orphee Musique brings young classical musicians to New York each year to perform seven concerts in seven days. This is a special opportunity for these recent Paris Conservatory graduates to gain experience performing in concert halls, speaking English, and interacting with audiences in the U.S. This year’s performers are Tabea and Daniel Streicher, a brother-and-sister duo. Their musical journey together began in 2009, when years of making music as siblings translated into a natural understanding of one another through music. Shortly after their first attempts at playing together, the young piano duo, then aged five and seven, respectively, entered the 2010 International Steinway Piano Competition in Berlin and won third prize. This early recognition and shared joy of music laid the foundation for their continued collaboration. Alongside their solo repertoire, the two artists continue to expand their duo repertoire and perform regularly, with their passion for ensemble playing and the quality of their collaboration growing with every project. Concerts Friday, November 13 St. Gregory’s Church, Woodstock Saturday, November 14, 3:00 pm Doctorow Center for the Arts, Hunter Sunday, November 15, 1:00 pm Windham Civic & Performing Arts Center, Windham
