Drs. Joanne Polk and Jeffrey Langford return to the CMF for a program celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States, exploring the music and life of Amy Marcy Cheney Beach, America’s first great female composer. They will be joined by guest artist and cellist Julian Langford.

Doctorow Center for the Arts

The Doctorow Center offers amazing performances all year-round from live music and music education programs, movie showings, live music, puppetry, theater, and more! This multi-arts complex houses the Mountain Cinema, a three-screen movie theater, showing the latest in Hollywood and Independent movies are shown weekly year-round and the Evelyn Weisberg Concert Hall, a 150-seat performance space hosting chamber music, folk/pop music, puppetry, and theater. The Doctorow Center also houses the Piano Performance Museum, home to the unique Steven E Greenstein collection of historic pianos from the 18th to the 20th centuries. The Doctorow Center is the home of the Catskill Mountain Foundation, with programming and administrative offices located in the building. During the summer months, the Catskill Mountain Foundation hosts a variety of music education and performance programs at the Doctorow Center, with many events free and open to the public. Come share the music and love of learning with these talented students. The latest in Hollywood and Independent movies are shown weekly year-round, except on weekends when performances are scheduled. 7th Annual Reading of Washington Irving’s Rip Van Winkle

Join the Mountain Top Historical Society for its annual community reading of Washington Irving’s classic tale, Rip Van Winkle. Hear the story of Rip’s legendary journey into the Catskill Mountains with his faithful dog, Wolf, while enjoying a visit from Catskill artist Matt Bua and his Traveling Rip Exhibit. Ol’ Rip himself will also make an appearance. The Sunshine Boys, by Neil Simon

Join us at the Doctorow Center for the Arts for Neil Simon’s classic comedy, The Sunshine Boys! Al Lewis and Willy Clark, a feuding pair of vaudeville comedians who performed together for 47 years, are brought back together when Clark’s nephew proposes a TV special celebrating the history of comedy. As old rivalries resurface and the one-liners fly, the two must decide whether they can put their differences aside long enough to collect one last paycheck. Starring Michael McDonald as Al Lewis and Gary Falk as Willy Clark.

Blind Contour Portraits

Join artist Tracy Loring for a playful exploration of portraiture through blind contour drawing and watercolor. Working first in pencil, participants will create a portrait without looking down at the page, then add watercolor to bring their drawings to life. Come with a partner and draw and paint each other, or, if you’re coming solo, work from an 8 × 10-inch photograph or an 8.5 × 11-inch printed copy. No drawing experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to see and draw a little differently!
