The OMNY Taiko Drummers return to the mountaintop to once again captivate the Catskill Mountain community with their highly anticipated performances.
OMNY Taiko is a dynamic drumming group dedicated to sharing the art of taiko across NYC through inclusive performances, classes, and workshops. Emphasizing connection, teamwork, and community, OMNY uses taiko as a powerful form of expression and collaboration. Their mission is to embody the spirit of New York—rooted in resilience, energy, and unity.
Taiko (太鼓), meaning “big drum,” is a traditional Japanese percussion instrument with a history spanning over 1,000 years. Originally used in religious rituals, festivals, and theater, taiko evolved in the 1950s with the creation of kumi-daiko—ensemble drumming featuring multiple performers playing various-sized drums. This dynamic and visually striking style has gained worldwide popularity, inspiring taiko groups across the globe.
