Hike: 1925 Teenage girls working at the Mountain House

    • Sat, 10/05/2024
  • 5132 Route 23A, Haines Falls, NY 12436

The Mountain Top Historical Society of Greene County invites you to hike the Catskill Mountains with us! Hike led by Chief Archivist Bob Gildersleeve, 1925 Teenage girls working at the Mountain House, Saturday, October 5th at 9:00 AM.

  • This can take two different paths. We can go from the Mountain House site to Boulder Rock by way of the abandoned trail called the “Circuit of South Mountain” and possibly on to the Hotel Kaaterskill grounds. The girls who were summer workers at the Catskill Mountain House in 1925, the year after the building burned, visited the site and stood by a well pump in what had been a courtyard. A second possibility is to go north from the Mountain House site to Jacob’s Ladder. We’d be able to find the site of the ladder based on other photos and one of the girls climbing it. There is also a photo that Bob thinks is near one of the ledges we will pass. We can try to find the spot.
  • Meeting time: 9:00 AM at the MTHS Campus, 5132 Route 23A, Haines Falls, NY
  • Difficulty: Moderate

In conjunction with Lark in the Park. DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER. Email mthsdirector@mths.org or call 518-589-6657.
