Join us in the Town of Durham to celebrate 250 Years of Independence for our Annual 4th of July Parade with Grand Marshall Lt. Col. Dermot J. Gavin.
Dermot Gavin is a lifelong resident of Durham, NY and has served in the New York Army National Guard since 2006 as an Infantry Officer, currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) in 2009 and 2012 and Operation Spartan Shield (Kuwait) in 2020, serving at multiple command levels and traveling to six continents, including the Tri Color Celebration in Waterford, Ireland with the 69th Infantry Regiment. A 27-year member of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company, former member of the Durham Volunteer Ambulance Squad, and parishioner of Our Lady of Knock Shrine. Dermot grew up working at his family’s Gavin’s Irish Country Inn, reinforcing his strong commitment to community. He is married to Tara, his prom date, and is the father of Shanon, Seamus, and Sean.
