Join us on the fourth Sunday of each month, April through October, for Community Studio, a relaxed, welcoming space where artists of all ages can create, share skills, and connect with fellow artists.

Bring your supplies and a project to work on, pull up a chair, and share a table as you create alongside others. Water-based media, fiber arts, writing, collage, and more are welcome. Please note that oil paints and spray materials are not permitted in the building.

Fourth Sundays, 1–3 p.m.; April–October

Sliding-scale admission at the door: $5–$15.
Open to all ages; children must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration is encouraged; walk-ins are welcome!

The Athens Cultural Center has been a gathering place for local arts, classes, film, and community happenings since 2005. ACC offers a rich variety of free and paid classes for all art enthusiasts. Exhibitions are presented throughout the year, along with special events. Housed in a former 1870s storefront, ACC is steps away from the Hudson River. Drum Circle

Join us on the fourth Thursday of each month to explore the power of drumming to move, connect, and transform. More than simply hearing or playing rhythms, a drum circle is a shared vibrational experience that can be energizing, grounding, healing, and fun. No experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring a hand drum, such as a frame drum, bongo, or similar percussion instrument. A limited number of drums are available upon request. Autumn Deep Reading Night

Join us for a guided reading and participatory discussion of a John Ashbery poem, held in honor of his centennial and led by scholar and translator Leonard Nalencz. Deep Reading Night is a relaxed, screen-free evening centered on reading and discussing a single poem by Ashbery, the celebrated writer who spent much of his life connected to creative communities in the Upper Hudson Valley. Chosen for its openness, emotional range, and relevance to many different lives, the poem will be read aloud and explored together, with Leonard guiding the conversation and inviting participants to notice details, share observations, and consider new perspectives. No expertise or preparation is required—just a curiosity about reading and thinking in community. The evening will include a light-fare potluck. Bring a snack to share at the community table. $10–$20 suggested donation Presented by the Matthew Strother Center for The Examined Life and The Flow Chart Foundation. 5-7pm

Felt an Abstract Landscape

Inspired by the Seasons of Greene VII exhibition, this hands-on workshop explores texture, abstraction, and composition through fiber arts. Guided by teaching artist Chantal Van-Wierts, participants will learn the basics of needle felting while drawing inspiration from the artwork on view to explore color, texture, line, pattern, and form. Through layering, discover how contrast, harmony, movement, and imagination can transform simple materials into a unique work of art. No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. Participants are also welcome to bring fabrics, yarns, or other textile-based materials of interest. For adults and teens ages 13 and up. 1-3pm
