Autumn Deep Reading Night

Join us for a guided reading and participatory discussion of a John Ashbery poem, held in honor of his centennial and led by scholar and translator Leonard Nalencz.

Deep Reading Night is a relaxed, screen-free evening centered on reading and discussing a single poem by Ashbery, the celebrated writer who spent much of his life connected to creative communities in the Upper Hudson Valley. Chosen for its openness, emotional range, and relevance to many different lives, the poem will be read aloud and explored together, with Leonard guiding the conversation and inviting participants to notice details, share observations, and consider new perspectives. No expertise or preparation is required—just a curiosity about reading and thinking in community.

The evening will include a light-fare potluck. Bring a snack to share at the community table.
