250th Anniversary Celebration of the American Revolution

For the finale of Greene County’s celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, County Historian Jonathan Palmer will present “Canvas and Hemlock: The Revolutionary Dawn of the Catskills.” The talk explores how the Catskills helped shape American identity after the Revolution through the rise of the Hudson River School of Art and the region’s growth as a center of industry and leisure. The lecture concludes with a visit to the top of Haines Falls, a landmark featured in Hudson River School paintings, where the landscape reflects the nation’s early relationship with the natural world.

The presentation will be held in the historic 1913 Ulster and Delaware Train Station–the last of its kind in Greene County, Address: 5132 Route 23A Haines Falls, NY.
