Speaker Series

The Speaker Series at Sugar Maples Center For Creative Arts at the Catskill Mountain Foundation provides the highest quality lecture experiences for the enrichment of the community in the Catskill region. Speakers represent a wide variety of cultural subjects from the visual arts, writing, poetry, architecture, and the environment. They are selected based on their extraordinary achievements and unique expertise in their fields of endeavor. Our goal is to bring together bright minds to give talks that are idea-focused, and on a wide range of subjects, to foster learning, inspiration, and wonder – and provoke meaningful conversations that matter. This event is free and open to the public. We are happy to provide stewardship of important historic buildings in the Hamlet of Maplecrest in Greene County and will continue to preserve the architectural and environmental heritage of our location.

Art Explorers

The Art Explorers youth program offers one-week sessions during July and August for ages 5-14 allowing children to explore their creativity through arts & crafts, scrapbooking, theater, drawing & sketching, and cartooning.

Current Exhibition - A Body of Work: Explorations in Weaving by Renee Baumann
OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, October 17, 5–7 PM
EXHIBITION DATES: October 18,19, 25 & 26, 12-5pm

This exhibition features new works woven from Catskills plants such as willow, bark, and cattail. Blending traditional techniques with contemporary expression, the pieces explore the connection between form, function, and the human body. Drawing on deep knowledge of weaving traditions, Renee reimagines plant-based materials as a modern medium that reflects human labor and our bond with nature. Visitors are invited to engage with both raw materials and finished works—handling traditional baskets in their original uses and experiencing the intricate processes behind this ancient craft.
