How to Take a Leek: A Ramp Stewardship Workshop

    • Sat, 05/18/2024
  • 408 Lake Mills Road, Cairo, NY 12431

Join us for a special workshop focused on the fragrant ramp, also known as wild leek (Allium tricoccum). Learn about the plant's life cycle, optimal harvesting techniques, and cultivation methods. Following a hands-on demonstration on transplanting, accompanied by ramp-infused snacks, participants will take home ramp bulbs for their own planting endeavors—a $35 value in itself! Please wear comfortable attire and footwear suitable for outdoor exploration, and if possible, bring along a trowel or digging tool.

Note that this workshop is scheduled towards the end of ramp season intentionally. This timing ensures that ramp bulbs are transplanted while dormant, maximizing their chances of successful growth. By choosing this timeframe, we can still showcase ramps in their natural habitat while offering participants the opportunity to establish their own patch with high-quality ramp bulb transplants.

Advance registration is required for this woodland workshop. Workshop is from 10-12 and costs $45.00.
