Maifest got its origins back in tenth century Germany, when villagers and townspeople would erect a pole in the local village square and decorate it with sausages, cakes and multicolored ribbons to celebrate nature’s bright reawakening after winter’s cold darkness. People would dance around the Maypole, believing that it would bring good luck and wealth to those who partook in the festivities. However modern day celebrations in Germany and Austria are very similar to those at the Mountain Brauhaus in Round Top, NY where the coming of spring is celebrated among friends.
Americans have been enjoying the famed German Oktoberfest celebrations for decades, but luckily you don’t have to wait for fall to enjoy a fun German celebration.
Come join in the festivities of Maifest, a traditional German celebration of the arrival of spring in an authentic German atmosphere like no other in North America. At The Mountain Brauhaus’s Maifest the great German-American food is plentiful and the beer and wine flow freely. Of course what would a German celebration be without live German music, provided annually by one of the best German bands in the Northeast, and dancing entertainment by The Mountain Brauhaus Schuhplatter Verein.
