23Arts Summer Music Festival Weekend I: Jazz
Featuring Camille Thurman & the Darrell Green Trio
Her tenor saxophone recalls the mastery of legends like Joe Henderson and Dexter Gordon, while her scintillating singing and “remarkable scat prowess” (All About Jazz) has been compared to Ella Fitzgerald and Betty Carter. Camille Thurman is indeed one of the most astonishing young artists in Jazz today, fronting one of the music’s best quartets.
Kicking off the 5th annual 23Arts Summer Music Festival, Thurman honors what would be the 90th birthday of legendary pianist Horace Silver, offering fresh new takes on the music of the the “Hard Bop Grandpop” and exploring his soulful Jazz-Funk of the 1970s with exciting new arrangements and lyrics.
