BRONCK MUSEUM TO CELEBRATE THE 400TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DUTCH SETTLEMENT OF NEW YORK
Four centuries ago, the Bogardus, Conyn, deWandelear, Van Bergen, Van Buren, Winnie, Bronck and many other Dutch families were active participants in establishing the Dutch colony of New Netherland. Descendants of these founding Dutch families are still active members of the community.
On Sunday October 13th the Bronck Museum, site of the oldest surviving Dutch farmstead in the Hudson Valley, will hold an open house in celebration of the four hundredth anniversary of the founding of New Netherland. Visitors will be able to explore the 361-year-old stone farmhouse built by Pieter Bronck and the classic Dutch colonial farmhouse build for Pieter’s grandson in 1738.
This event is free and open to everyone interested in the Dutch heritage of this area. Costumed docents will answer questions and provide brief histories of the houses and the lifestyle of the earliest settlers. Dutch refreshments will be served. The Bronck Museum is located at 90 County Route 42, Coxsackie, NY. For additional information visit www.gchistory.org or call Bronck Museum at 518-731- 6490.
Please join us on October 13th from noon to 4PM and experience the earliest colonial history of New York.
