Situated on the banks of the legendary Hudson River, it's no surprise that the region has a rich boating tradition. In a bygone era, ferries and river boats brought commerce and passengers bound for the region's grand hotels into the port communities of the Northern Catskills.
Modern technology and transportation innovations have all but eradicated the boat travel that once existed—and today, the region's waterways are a paradise for recreational boaters and Catskills fishing. There are launches and marinas located in many Hudson River towns. Canoe, kayak and rowboat rentals are also available to explore the river, pristine mountain lakes, streams and tidal preserves.
