Girlfriends' Getaway

Suggested Itinerary

2-Day Itinerary

If you're looking for great girlfriends' getaway, look no further than Greene County. Start your trip at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill, which encompasses the beautiful home and painting studio of Thomas Cole, founder of the Hudson River School of Art. Or opt instead for the Bronck Museum in Coxsackie, a complex of buildings that includes the oldest surviving Dutch Colonial home in the Hudson Valley and a unique 13-sided barn. Once you're there, you may want to spend some time at the Coxsackie Antiques Center where you will find more than 100 dealers under one roof.

After you've filled your history quotient, head to the village of Catskill to check out the shops, art galleries and great places to eat along Main Street. On the second Saturday of every month, the village hosts Catskill Strolls when stores and studios stay open until 9:00 p.m. Catskills art galleries also stay open late for Saturday Studios every third Saturday of the month, offering workshops, seminars, music, dance and cultural hobnobbing. And if it's a Saturday during the summer, don't miss the Catskill Region Farmer's and Artisan's Market at Historic Catskill Point on Main Street. During July and August, there are also markets on Main Street in Cairo on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and in East Durham on Sundays.

Head up to mountaintop on Route 23 and stop in at the Windham Vineyard & Winery, the highest elevation vineyard winery in the Northeast. Cozy up to the wine bar or relax on the deck to sample Riesling, Chardonnay, Muscat, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and other fine wines made in small batches.

Check in to one of Greene County's many fine hotels, condos, country inns or Catskills B&Bs and check out what might be happening that night...whether it's a casual concert under the stars, an opera at the Altamura Center for Arts and Cultures in Round Top or a performance by the Windham Chamber Orchestra. Or perhaps your group prefers to relax at one of the area's great restaurants or bistros, get in your PJs early and gab the night away.

On day two, pamper yourselves at a spa. The luxurious new spa at the Kaatskill Mountain Club offers a full menu of services ranging from deep tissue massage and hot stone therapy to facials, manicures and pedicures.

If your group likes to golf, think about arranging a session with the highly respected Susan Stafford Golf School at the Windham Country Club to fine-tune your drives, chips and putts. An altogether different option would be a visit to the Mountain Top Arboretum on Route 23A in Tannersville to explore its 21-acres of trees and shrubs. Whatever you choose, you and your girlfriends are sure to have a good time exploring all the Catskills events and attractions in Greene County.
